Today I Commit
My daily RX column has helped get me to this point of truly thinking enough of my physical self to take care of me. The columns of March15th-19th have given me the committed desire to start this journey that will last to my last breath.
It is my belief that every fat person knows how they got there and what they need to do to get where they want to be physically.
I am 65# overweight. I feel it in my knees, I feel it when I am doing housework, I feel it when I am chasing an 18 month old, I feel it when I bend to pick up something from a sitting position, and I feel it when I put on my socks. The ‘it’ is fat/blubber that makes everyday activities harder.
Carrying 65 extra pounds unfortunately does not count as weight training!
My first step this week is no eating after 6 p.m. I will post daily on my progress.
DAY 1 SUCCESS I will post details on day 7 when I announce my 2nd step.
DAY 2 MORE SUCCESS I am enjoying how success feels. Day 3 has started and I have a strong start so will let you know how the finish goes.
DAY 3-Strong finish. I soooo wanted something for a bedtime snack but I didn’t. Do a little dance for victory this day.
DAY 4-I finished strong but..wasn’t watching the time and it was 6:15 when I wanted my snack. I’ll start setting my alarm so I don’t feel sooo deprived! Little joke for all you emotional eaters out there.
Day 5 I barely got my treat in before the magic hour. This must be what it is like for people who are super control freaks. I think that I need to be this anal right now as I know if I start fudging just a little pretty soon it is going to be a lot. For instance the food has to be in the mouth by 6 and beverages (not herbal tea or water) count as food. Fortunately I am a water drinker so this rule won’t present a lot of challenge for me. I’ll let you know how I finish. It is a busy evening so it should be good. The finish was strong. I was so tempted to snack but I am glad I can say I was successful.
Day 6 I am out of town on a girls-night out. I don’t see any reason to try and not do adult beverages after 6 since we are going to a live show of country western entertainers. I am going to give myself a free night on this one. I’ll let you know how it went. (If we go out after 6 for a meal I’ll make it a salad)–I am up an hour early so I can fix a balanced breakfast and not be tempted to eat all of the ‘snacks’ all the time. This sure does take a lot of planning.–I had my 3 sensible meals, walked 2 hours at the mall, swam 45 minutes, partied moderately and had a sensible 10p.m. breakfast. A great ”gals’ night out” without being too over the top.
DAY 7 This is the first morning I woke up without being so very hungry. Could it be because it has only been 9 hours since I last ate!! It’ll be an on track day. And it was. I am so glad that I started this journey.
